Description
Bounded on the West by the promontory of Cap Brun, the Anse de Méjean is situated within the larger Rade de Toulon. Well-sheltered against western and north-western winds, the bay is however totally exposed to south-east ones and offers no shelter from winds of this direction which often blow near the coast. In order to preserve the mooring area, the Var department has established (like in many other areas of the region) a reserved mooring zone in the middle of the anchorage which can host up to 30 boats simultaneously. As an alternative, yachtsmen can drop the anchor in the south-western and south-eastern sides of the bay. The area closer to the shore is on the contrary reserved for bathers and marked by a row of buoys. In the eastern shore of the bay, along the small promontory which divides the bay from the Anse de Magaud, a small picturesque port is specifically reserved for fishing boats. The beach of the bay is a mixture of small white gravel deposits, steep rocks and sandy areas, surrounded by the blue sea and green hills covered with an abundant Mediterranean forest and some beautiful villas. The beach offers a first-aid station, some restaurants and a free parking lot on the western edge of the area, in the Cap Brun area. It measures 700 mt in total and it has a narrow elongated shape. Despite its comfortable parking lot, the beach is not particularly suitable for families with babies because of its conformation and the steep path leading to the bay. The westernmost side of the anchorage hosts a small cluster of colourful picturesque buildings. Some of them are old fisherman's huts which can be rented for a short relaxing holiday. The Anse de Méjean offers its visitors a peaceful background and a breath-taking landscape just few steps away from Toulon, its port and the popular Saint-Mandrier-Sur-Mer
